It’s flu season again… and this year it has been a doozy!!!! I feel like my kids have been sick for months! Having a sick one and two year old is the worst, especially because you can’t really give them any medicine to help them feel better. It seems like their poor little noses are always clogged!! Well here are my cold and flu survival items for all you momma and daddy’s out there!!
1). Boogie Wipes
I feel like I should buy stock in these. They are perfect for little stuffy noses!!! These wipes are so gentle so your baby’s nose doesn’t get chaffed. They even gently wipe away those dried, stuck on boogies! Plus they smell great! These are a MUST for cold and flu season!! 2). Boogie Mist
This gentle saline spray is great for breaking up congestion in your baby’s noses, and helping them breathe better! It even comes in a great smelling grape scent! Click the photo to learn more.
3). NoseFrida Snot Sucker
Yep, I know what you’re going to say… DISGUSTING! And believe me, I felt that way too… until I got desperate. After a recommendation from a friend, and my frustration with those bulb aspirators, I finally gave in and bought a NoseFrida Snot Sucker. And it was the best thing I could have done for when my kids have stuffy noses! This cleared their noses out soooo much better than the bulb, and in no way does the snot ever get even remotely close to your mouth. There is a little filter that stops it, so the snot never even enters the tube. I highly recommend this product! You will thank me later! 4). Zarbees Cough Syrup
The Zarbees brand was recommended by my kiddos pediatrician. There is a variety of options to choose from, including for ages starting at two months old. There is also a nighttime option for toddlers starting at two years old. Zarbees also has a line of vitamins to include multi vitamins, and immune support vitamins for toddlers. This really helped soothe my kiddo’s cough to make it easier for them to sleep at night. Click the photo to learn more.
5). Vicks VapoRub
This chest rub for children does a great job suppressing their cough and helping them breathe better. This is recommended for kids two years and older. For babies, Zarbees also makes a natural chest rub that helps! Check that out here.

6). Lil Giggles Cough, Cold, and Throat Lollipops
My kids LOVE suckers! If yours do too, then this is a perfect solution for their cough, cold, or sore throat! It comes in lollipop form, and there is an option for just cough, and one for cough cold, and sore throat! This brand also makes a nausea and motion sickness one! These are recommended for ages three and up. Click the photo to learn more.
7). Vicks Warm Steam Vaporizer
I have one of these vaporizers in each of my kids rooms. It really helps break up their congestion, and suppresses their cough too! With this vaporizer, you can use scented pads in the slots on the top, or the liquid vaposteam directly in the water, or in the cup built into the lid. (pads and vaposteam recommended only for ages two and older). 8). Temple Touch Thermometer
We use a thermometer similar to this one, and it is SO much easier to take our kiddo’s temperature! All you do is press the button, wait for the beep, and touch to their temple. The reading takes only seconds! This non-invasive method will help you keep up on your little one’s temperature when they are sick, and you can even do it while they are sleeping without waking them! In addition to these products, I also recommend hanging out in a “steam room” (We close the door in our bathroom and turn the shower on pretty hot, wait for the bathroom to steam up, and have a “spa day”. This really helps clear up the congestion! Warm baths before bedtime also help with the congestion and help them fall asleep quickly. Give your kiddo plenty of fluids too! We go through orange juice like crazy, and my toddlers also love chicken noodle soup, and warm tea with honey. This help soothe their sore throats and also helps suppress their cough. And remember, lots and lots of rest!!!!!
I hope these recommendations help you survive the cold and flu season with your little one!!!
