Toddlers love their independence!  They also love to help around the house.  We do our best to nurture their need to do things on their own.  We put essential clothing in the lower drawers so our toddler can pick out his own clothes, and we give him a lot of choices so he can feel like he’s picking his own food and activities.  He loves picking out his own books at story time, and even turns the pages for me as I read!  Here are some of the items we love that have helped our little one’s independence shine!

1.  Little Partners Learning Tower

The Little Partners Learning Tower is perfect for any little helper!  This tower helps your toddler get up to counter height to “help” you mix cake batter, cut out cookies, or watch you make dinner!  The tower is adjustable so can be moved to the correct height as your toddler grows!  It comes in a variety of colors, and the safety rails prevent your toddler from falling out.  The steps on the side make it easy for your toddler to climb in and out on their own.

2. Melissa and Doug Cleaning Set

Toddlers love “helping” with chores!  Early involvement with responsibilities helps them become more responsible later on.  My one and two year old both love this little cleaning set!  They literally mop, sweep, and dust every single day.  Right now they pretty much just spread the dirt around, but this will come in handy someday, right?  This set is well made and very functional.  It is easy for your toddler to take off and hang back up on their own.  Now they can be proud that they can clean up their own messes!

3.  Dyson Toy Vacuum

Our little guy loves to vacuum!  This cute Dyson toy vacuum makes real vacuum noise, and has little bits that swirl around inside to look like debris in the canister!  There is also a handheld attachment that really “sucks” (though very little).  Now every time I pull out the vacuum, our two year old pulls out his and “helps” me vacuum the floor.

4.  Faucet Extenders

These faucet extenders fit easily on your faucets to extend the flow of water closer to the front of the sink so little ones can reach it!  They will love the independence of being able to wash their hands without your help!  Our little guy loves washing his hands after using the potty, and this is such a big help for him (and for my back as I don’t have to lift him up each time!).  There are also sink handle extenders available so your toddler can turn the water on and off on their own.

5.  Potty Seat With Step

This potty seat has built in handles and a step ladder to make potty time easy for your toddler!  They can climb up to reach the big toilet on their own using the convenient handles so they won’t fall off.  The potty seat is comfortable for their little bottom, and has a urine guard at the front to prevent messes.  The potty seat folds down when not in use for easy storage.

6. Munchkin Miracle Sippy Cups

These sippy cups are AMAZING!  They really helped get our 18 month old off the bottle, and quickly!  These cups do not have a spout.  Your toddler can drink out of it like a real cup.  It seals completely when your child is done drinking, and is completely spill-proof (our baby carries it around upside down, so it has been tested!).  These come in a variety of choices and sizes, some with handles, and some without.  They are very simple to clean, as the silicone part pops right out and back in easily.  What a great transition cup for toddlers!  Ours love that they are drinking out of a “real cup like mommy and daddy”.
